Final report (translated by google from Dutch to English and also published at Ford Kuga forum) after driving 2500 km with the Ford Kuga and why I probably will buy the Dmi-AWD
Kuga : Again, if the battery is empty upon departure, there is no possibility to fully charge the battery while driving (yes, I know that this would not be economical). Only in sport mode incl. L position (where you cannot choose EV now or EV later) I was able to charge a maximum of 0 to 4 km during a "test drive of 2500 km" in a mountainous area, but these 4 km were also gone in no time. In eco and normal mode, charging the battery was not possible at all (strangely enough, you can then click on EV now and EV later, but what is the point of that with an empty battery). Of course you do see EV km on the counter, but it only increases when the car goes downhill or holds back/rolls out. You can only collect approx. 20% of EV km as a HEV! In EV only I was able to drive 0 km if you start with an empty battery. To be able to drive EV only, you really have to put the battery at a charging station in advance to charge it. When it is empty you drive with a HEV until you charge the battery again at the charging station. Really a big minus point for me and probably the deal breaker that makes me go for the BYD SEAL U DMi-AWD which works the other way around, namely a fully electric car with over 200 hp electric motor on the front wheels, over 160 hp electric motor on the rear wheels and a over 130 hp petrol engine that keeps the battery capacity at a level of min. 25% to max 75% according to choice. So you drive 99% of the time fully electric, only when you do a kickdown the combustion engine also directly supports the wheels. The BYD also has an LFP battery with an 8-year warranty and 6-year warranty on the entire car (as opposed to 2 years for the KUGA) and that for the same price!
Back to the Kuga: Further with battery empty, in eco mode and speeds of 80 -130 kmh fully controlled by the acc using speed sign recognition (which works fantastically well in the Kuga) the consumption is 16.9 km per liter which is a normal gasoline consumption, not exceptionally good.
What I also noticed is that when you leave a motorway the acc also adjusts the speed, even if there is no vehicle in front, great
Furthermore, in Germany you have eco zones and if you are in normal or sport mode the car automatically switches to eco mode at the start of the eco zone and when you leave the eco zone it switches back to normal or sport mode, great
What I also noticed is that:
- indicator sound could be a bit louder (you often forget to put it back, but then you get an alarm at a certain point when you have forgotten)
- placing your phone on the wireless charger comes very sharp otherwise the smartphone does not charge
- interior quality could be a bit better, a lot of hard plastic and a lot of black (two-tone would freshen it up a bit)
- audio quality is fine (no DAB reception in Austria)
- seats are fine
- air conditioning, heated seats and steering wheel are fine
- acceleration and top speed are fine
- when opening the car by approaching the car it would be handy if the rear doors also unlock (now you have to use the key once more for that).
- opening the trunk by foot movement is very handy
- parking assist is great both in traffic jam parking and in reverse parking
- matrix lighting is great, also automatic mode
- HUD on a plastic screen is outdated
- sound in the car when cruising is mainly tire noise, when accelerating hard you can clearly hear the engine/eCVT
